Shutter Counter Compatibility and Possible Results
Shutter count metadata is typically stored in the EXIF data of image files, particularly for raw image formats. The following file types are supported, with their corresponding shutter count tags:
- .cr2, .cr3 (Canon): Uses ShutterCount or ImageNumber
- .nef (Nikon): Uses ShutterCount
- .arw (Sony): Uses ImageCount
- .raf (Fuji): Uses ImageCount
- .orf (Olympus): May use ShutterCount
- .rw2 (Panasonic): May use ShutterCount
- .dng (Adobe Digital Negative): May contain shutter count if the original raw file had it
- .jpeg, .jpg: May contain shutter count in EXIF data for some cameras, but it's not common
- .tiff, .tif: Can contain shutter count if generated by the camera with embedded EXIF data
- .raw: General raw formats may include shutter count, depending on the manufacturer
- .srw (Samsung): May include shutter count
- .rwl (Leica): Can contain shutter count
Other file formats (e.g., .png, .gif, .heic, .psd, .bmp, .avif, .jp2, .jpx, .jfif) typically do not include shutter count as they either don't support EXIF metadata or are not used for storing raw camera data.
This camera shutter counter leverages ExifTool to efficiently search and display the shutter count.
